Flapless and Guided Implant Treatment | Melsadent Dental Clinic
Seamless implant and guided implant treatment are modern implant methods that require no stitches, offer rapid healing, and offer high comfort. How is it done, and what are its advantages?
What Is Flapless Implant (Guided Implant)?
Flapless implant is a modern treatment method in which the implant is placed without gingival incision or stitches. In this technique, instead of making a large incision on the gum, only a small hole is created where the implant will be placed. This makes the surgical procedure less invasive, accelerates the healing process, and increases patient comfort.
In conventional implant surgery, the gum is incised and lifted to expose the bone before placing the implant, and stitches are then applied. In contrast, with flapless implant placement, there are no such incisions or stitches, resulting in minimal damage to the gum and bone.
What Is Guided Implant Surgery?
Guided implant surgery, also known as guided or navigated implant placement, uses digital planning and surgical templates to place implants more precisely and safely. This technique ensures the implant is positioned at the correct location, angle, and depth.
First, 3D images (such as CBCT scans) and/or intraoral scan data are used to plan the implant virtually. Then a customized surgical guide is designed according to this plan and produced using a 3D printer or similar technology. The surgical guide is placed in the patient’s mouth and transfers the exact planned implant position to the clinical setting.
How Are Flapless and Guided Implants Applied Together?
Initial Examination and Digital Imaging
In the first step, the patient’s oral condition, gums, and bone structure are evaluated. Then 3D imaging methods such as panoramic X-rays and CBCT (cone beam computed tomography) are used to analyze bone quality and density.
Virtual Planning
The obtained 3D images are transferred to digital implant planning software. Here, the implant’s length, angle, and position are determined virtually. The prosthetic options to be placed on top can also be planned in advance.
Production of the Surgical Guide
The surgical guide prepared in line with the plan is physically produced with a 3D printer. This template is fitted to the patient’s mouth at the time of surgery and ensures the implant is placed in the planned position.
Flapless Surgical Procedure
Under local anesthesia, a small hole is drilled in the area where the implant will be placed using the surgical guide. This allows the implant to be placed without gum incisions or stitches.
Advantages of this method include less bleeding, swelling, and lower risk of infection.
Fast Healing and Comfort
Since no stitches are applied, the healing time for patients is significantly shortened. Complications and discomfort are reduced, and the postoperative period is more comfortable.
Same-Day Temporary Teeth (Optional)
Because the planned implant positions and intraoral appearance are known in advance with guided surgery, it is possible to place temporary teeth on the same day the implants are applied using techniques such as Fast & Fixed. This allows the patient to leave the clinic with teeth on the same day.
